Bachelorettes + Buttons!

Today I finished making custom buttons for my good friend, Michelle Manger, who will be getting married in mid-November this year in Chicago. This Labor Day weekend is her bachelorette party in where else? Vegas, baby! Three nights and four days of basking in the sun, drinking mojitos under the poolside cabana, partying it up in VIP, and dancing' the night away! Miss Michelle loves Marilyn Monroe and Sex in the City - because she is the identical twin of fashion diva Carrie Bradshaw - so I decided to play that up. All 15 girls attending can choose a Sex in the City character of their choice, Marilyn, or a button with a fun saying to wear. They are small enough not to ruin a perfectly put together outfit too. No 2-inch buttons ever look classy!

Who would you be? (I'd be Samantha!)

Goodbye Silverlake Art Craft Vintage, Hello Buttons!

Roll out the red carpet! Yesterday was the Pop + Shorty button premiere party at the Silverlake, Art, Craft, and Vintage in Silverlake. Well, I call it a party because it was the first show I've sold my one-inch creations. Sadly, it was my last appearance at the market. I'll be gearing up for the Renegade Craft Show in Chicago and the Jill of All Trades in Santa Barbara in September. There are many holiday craft shows in November and December that I want to apply to, and I plan on submitting my applications as soon as I'm back from Chicago. I am most excited about the Holiday Shopping Spectacular in Atlanta on November 21st. Wish me luck getting in!

For your viewing pleasure, a few shots of our new buttons below:

After a long, hot, sweltering day at the market, my husband and I babysat the cutest little dude in the world named Noodles. I mean.....Elliott! Being around Elliott has me motivated to create more baby inspired items, so I'm thinking up a couple new buttons for new Moms and Dads. Also, Pop + Shorty is about to be featured in the online parenting magazine for hip moms and dads, Babble. I will post the link as soon as the review goes up. Very exciting!

My New Girl Crush - Courtesy of the Inglorious Basterds

For anyone who knows me well, I love World War II movies, so it's a no brainer that seeing Inglorious Basterds was a must-do on my list. I thought I'd go in swooning over Brad Pitt or Eli Roth, yet it was quite the opposite. I have a new girl crush on Melanie Laurent, who plays Shoshanna. Her role in the film was my favorite thoughout and the dress and hairpiece she wears in her final scene are beautiful. Here are a couple photos of her darling self screen-captured from the Inglorious Basterds website.

She is a total badass in the film, but I can say no more in hopes of not spoiling anything!

New Item at P + S : The Checklist Notepad

Our new item is top notch! The Checklist Notepad is the perfect sheet to write all the things you need to do and all the things you want to do. Maybe it's a far-fetched want, like flying to Hawaii that afternoon or something as simple as reading the last two chapters of your book - either way there's a special place for you to write it down. Don't limit yourself to a long list of things-to-do tasks, when you can have a little fun dreaming of your want list too!

The Checklist Notepad also includes a Things You Should Know tear-out sheet you can pin to your bulletin board, which includes handy facts such as the cost of a postage stamp, the state abbreviations, a unit measurement guide, astrological sign cut-off dates, and more!

The Checklist Notepad measures 5.25 in x 8.5 in and includes 50 sheets of lists with ruled lines and checkboxes. It will be available soon in our Etsy shop in the colors shown and also in yellow + blue.

Everyday Etsy : Wednesday, August 26th

Today's Everyday Etsy is another Renegade Craft Fair vendor, Mis Nopales Art. I love their gocco prints and just noticed today they also sell t-shirts! All artwork is drawn by Jose Pulido in California. Not even two years on Etsy, and Mis Nopales Art has made over 3,100 sales! Now that is inspiration for any Etsy seller.

Renegade Craft Fair : Chicago - Sept 12 + 13

The Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago is less than three weeks away, and Pop + Shorty is gearing up for the trip! Luckily, I have a number of amazing friends in Chicago (walking distance to the Fair) that are taking me in for the weekend. I couldn't be more grateful! The long list of other crafts / illustrators / artists / designers / knitters / creatives is phenomenal. Below are a few of these "Renegades" you will see on September 12 + 13.

Yummy Yummy Typeface

Is anyone else as excited about this new typeface as I am? Goodness, what a beautiful font I see before my eyes! It is called Beauchef Bold, and it's only $39 from Veer.

Everyday Etsy : Tuesday, August 25th

Today's Everyday Etsy is my favorite so far! I am in love with the designs the
Little Friends of Printmaking create. The bright colors and intricate details are truly remarkable. There are too many posters I adore to post here, so I am going to grab just a few of my favorites. You can check them out on their Etsy store, on their online shop, or purchase their wares from the Renegade Handmade store.

Portrait of Milton Glaser silkscreen art print - $25.00 (see clear varnish detail of this poster below!)

Judging a Book by Its Cover

I hate to say it, but regardless of the popular quote "Don't judge a book by its cover," I would say many to most of us do. Usually I don't go out of my way to go out and purchase a book. I'm usually wasting time with a cup of coffee browsing through a bookstore and see an interesting cover that grabs my attention. Bold texts, mysterious images, just plain good ol' design - that's what draws me in. While visiting Chevalier's Books in Larchmont recently, I was amazed by the selection of books with eye-catching cover art. I thought I would share with you:

Chevalier's Books - my new favorite bookstore

Inside of the store - (that's my husband in the purple shirt)

One thing to love about Larchmont is the dog watching - you can them almost everywhere!

And lastly, my friend Randy with his bag o' books!

Everyday Etsy : Friday, August 21st

I ran across this card by ghostacademy at Etsy and am in love with the saying. It makes me smile every time I see it. I mean, if kittens were actually exploding out of your head it would hurt, right? But cats are so darn adorable, that having them explode out of your head makes you feel happy? Either way, it's a funny thought.

Coffee, Tea, and Everyday Et-sy - Thursday, August 20th

I like Starbucks as much as the next guy, but it kills me to see the price tag on the mugs they sell. Waiting for my friend Lisa to get her Venti Americana today, I was browsing the assortment of mugs, and it got me thinking about all the other mugs out there in the world that need homes. There are so many vintage mugs out there just waiting for a friendly hand to hold their little handle. Just image all the lips they've touched, the assortment of coffees and teas that have heated their bellies, and the conversations they've overheard! I decided to dedicate this Everyday Etsy post to my favorite mugs - they've seen it all and just need you to give them a new happy home.
